Alfred H. Lander and Janet L. Lander Family Charitable Foundation
Funding Application Instructions
The Alfred H. and Janet L. Lander Family Charitable Foundation is a private operating foundation established in 2016 to fund projects and organizations. The Foundation is governed by a board of five directors. These directors make the final decision on all requests for funding received by the Foundation.
Funding by the Foundation
The Foundation funds qualified charitable organizations. The foundation will fund one-time single-year funding requests for a specific project or purpose.
Funding Requests the Foundation Will Deny
The Foundation will not fund the following types of projects or organizations. Any request for funding for these organizations or for these purposes will be denied:
International organizations that do not have a domestic 501(c)(3) representative
Private foundations
Brick and mortar projects
Fundraising events
Political or lobbying purposes
Organizations with less than 80% of revenue going into direct programming as based on their most recent IRS 990 Form filing
Application Procedure
All applicants are required to supply all required information on all applications. These applications must be delivered to the Foundation by April 1. No late applications will be accepted. Applicants will be notified about the results of their application by June 30.
Funding applications must contain:
1. A cover page containing the following information
2. A one-page cover letter summarizing the project, the amount requested, and the timetable for the project
3. A proposal (limited to 5 pages)
4. Line item budget for requested funds
5. Most recent IRS Form 990 or link to its location online
6. Proof of IRS tax determination letter showing that you are a recognized public charity and that you are not a private foundation
7. Affidavit from a representative of your organization stating that the IRS has not revoked your tax-exempt status or changed that status since the issuance of the tax determination letter
8. List of the organization’s board of directors or trustees with names, corporate titles, addresses, and phone numbers
The Foundation will notify you if additional information is required for your funding application package. The Foundation reserves the right to hold consideration of incomplete funding requests until the next funding consideration date at the discretion of the Foundation’s board of directors.
Frequency of Application
The Foundation receives numerous requests and is unable to fund all projects, even though those projects may be well-designed and well-conceived. Applicants may make only one application per year, whether successful in receiving funding or not.
Other Requirements
Organizations receiving funds from the Foundation must complete a follow-up form and provide a certified statement that the funds received from the Foundation have been used for the purpose intended. This statement, which must be signed by the organization’s accounting firm and chief financial officer, must be filed with the Foundation no later than 12 months after the date such funds are awarded. Organizations which do not report use of funds previously granted by the Foundation will be ineligible for future funding until that documentation is provided.
